A Bittersweet Farewell: Ryan Vargas Returns to Irwindale Speedway for Its Final Race

Vargas

As 2024 draws to a close, one of North America’s most iconic tracks, Irwindale Speedway, is preparing to shut its doors forever. This December 21, Ryan Vargas, an American racer with an international footprint, will take part in the track’s final late model race, bringing his incredible journey full circle at the place where his racing dreams began.

Closing a Chapter in Racing History

For 25 years, Irwindale Speedway has been a beloved hub for motorsports enthusiasts, known as “The House of Drifting.” The track has hosted countless memorable moments, but this December marks the end of its era. For Ryan Vargas, a native of La Mirada, California, this closure is especially poignant. Growing up just 18 miles away, Irwindale was more than a track; it was the foundation of his passion for racing.

Ryan Vargas: Coming Home

At 24 years old, Vargas is returning to Irwindale for the first time in five years, bringing along an illustrious career that now spans across the globe. From winning a track championship and countless races at Irwindale to competing full-time in the EuroNASCAR series this year, his journey reflects the profound influence the track has had on his life and career.

“Irwindale to me was the place I fell in love with NASCAR,” said Vargas. “It was where my dream became a reality, where I won a track championship, a dozen or so races, and made lifelong memories with my family and friends.”

The Perfect Short Track

Reflecting on Irwindale’s legacy, Vargas remarked on the track’s unique charm: “To me, Irwindale Speedway is the perfect short track. It has multiple lanes for racing, a wide racing groove, and five lanes to choose from. It’s just such a blast to drive!”

This sentiment is shared by fans and racers alike, making the final race an emotional yet thrilling event. For Vargas, it’s not just about the race itself but the opportunity to pay tribute to the place that shaped him into the racer he is today.
